If you’re an internet hound like me, you’re always keeping up with current events and the latest trends. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube and so forth. These websites and apps provide an endless plethora of information.
Sadly, most of the news we read these days is negative and quite depressing, it can be dizzying. So when stories like “The Dancing Barista” come to light, it’s a breath of fresh air.
Sam Forbes, a 17-year-old high school student with autism, warmed the hearts of millions after this video of him dancing as he serves up a beverage was posted online went viral.
Sam was invited to be a guest on The Ellen Degeneres Show and well, you might want to grab a box of tissues.
Needless to say, I was blown away after watching this video clip – and reduced to tears. Not only is Sam an inspiration, but Chris, his boss and friend, is a star. This man is truly a great person with a huge heart. He gave a kid who was so-called ‘unemployable’ a chance.
I hope this story inspires other business owners. Not only do people with differences need jobs and the money, but they need a sense of purpose, a routine and a feeling of community. It’s time people open their minds and businesses to people like Sam.
This story also gives me so much hope. Regardless of what anyone says, whatever any website tells you, anything is possible for our children. Our kids have so much potential and are so capable, they deserve the same consideration as anyone else.
People like Chris come few and far between and the world would be a much better place if we had more compassionate and caring people like him in our lives.
Okay, I’m off to scour every Starbucks location in Toronto so I can catch a glimpse of Sam in action and give him a big high-five.
